Signing in
How to sign in to your organization’s CartonCrew account.
Who this is for: people the organization has given an account: staff, board members and invited volunteers. Donating, signing up for a shift, asking for help and sending a message never need an account; see For supporters.
Steps
- Open your organization’s sign-in page. It is the organization’s CartonCrew
address followed by
/admin(for examplehttps://<your-org>.cartoncrew.online/admin), or the link in your invitation email. The organization’s public website has no sign-in link. - Choose one way to sign in:
- Continue with Google, if your account uses a Google email address.
- Continue with Microsoft, if it uses a Microsoft work or school address and you have linked Microsoft to your CartonCrew login (see Signing in with Microsoft). The first time, use an emailed code instead.
- Sign in with a passkey, if you have set one up on this device.
- Or type your Email, click Email me a sign-in code, then enter the 6-digit code from the email under Sign-in code and click Verify & sign in. The code is valid for 10 minutes, and it is also in the email’s subject (482913 is your (organization) sign-in code). Asking again within those 10 minutes sends the same code, so any of the emails works.
- Two-factor authentication is required for every account. The first time, you set it up; after that, you enter a code from your authenticator app. See Setting up two-factor authentication.
You then land on your organization’s Dashboard. The modules in the sidebar are the ones your organization has turned on, and what you can change in them depends on the role the organization gave you.
At a gallery, member artists sign in to the member portal instead: the sign-in page shows a line, “Member artists sign in here”, that links to it.
Signing in with Microsoft
Microsoft sign-in only opens a CartonCrew login that is already linked to your Microsoft account. It never creates a new login, and it never connects itself to one just because the email address matches. So the first time:
- Sign in with an emailed code, using the address your organization invited (from the sign-in page, or from the link in your invitation email, which also accepts the invitation). The code proves the address is yours.
- Go to Settings → Security (if your Settings has no Security tab, open My security in the bar at the top of the page; on a phone, tap your photo or initials at the top right, then My security) and click Link Microsoft under Sign in with Microsoft.
- Sign in to Microsoft with the account that uses the same email address as your CartonCrew login. You come back to the same page, which says Microsoft is linked.
From then on, Continue with Microsoft signs you in. Linking is refused if the Microsoft account uses a different email address, if it is already linked to another CartonCrew login, or if your login’s address has not been confirmed with an emailed code yet.
If you are also a member artist at the same gallery
If you are staff at a gallery and a current member artist of that same gallery, the bar at the top of every staff page shows Switch to Artist Portal, beside Sign out. Click it and the member portal opens on your own artist profile, already signed in: there is no second sign-in and no code. On a phone, tap your photo or initials at the top right, then Switch to Artist Portal (the same menu holds Sign out).
To come back, click Switch to Staff Portal in the bar at the top of the member portal, beside Sign out. It is in the same place on a phone.
- You only see the button when you hold both at the same gallery. Staff at one gallery who are a member artist at another do not see it.
- Switching changes nothing about what you can do: the staff app still uses your staff role, and the member portal still shows only your own artist profile, work and shifts.
- Sign out in either one signs you out of both.
How long you stay signed in
Signing in with an emailed code signs you in for this browser session only: you are signed out when you close the browser, and after 24 hours at the latest, even if the browser stays open. That holds whether or not you go on to enter a code from your authenticator app, so it is safe on a shared computer such as a front-desk machine. Pressing Sign out ends it at once.
What you’ll see
Common issues
- “There is no CartonCrew login for that Microsoft account yet.” Microsoft does not create logins. Sign in with an emailed code first, then link Microsoft (see Signing in with Microsoft). A pending invitation opened in the same browser tab is still accepted when you sign in with the code.
- “That account is not linked to your CartonCrew login yet.” Your login exists but Microsoft is not linked to it. Sign in with an emailed code, then link Microsoft from Settings → Security.
- “Google has not verified that email address.” Google cannot be used to create a login for an address it has not verified. Sign in with an emailed code instead.
- “Account not found for this organization.” You signed in, but that account is not a member of this organization. Ask the organization to invite you, or sign in with the account they invited.
- The sign-in code did not arrive. Check your spam folder. A code is only sent to an address that can sign in to this organization (a staff member, or someone with a pending invite), and the page shows the same message either way. If the address is right and nothing arrives, ask the organization to invite you. To send a new one, click Use a different email and request the code again.
- “Too many code requests right now. Please wait a minute and try again.” Wait a minute, then request one code.
- “That code isn’t right.” A digit is mistyped or the code is from an older email. Use the code from your most recent sign-in email.
- “That code was tried too many times, so it no longer works.” After three wrong tries a code stops working, even typed correctly. Request a new code and use the newest email.
- “That code has expired.” It is more than 10 minutes old. Request a new one.
- You signed in on a device you no longer have. Once signed in elsewhere, go to Settings → Security and click Sign out everywhere. Every session ends, including the one you are using, and you sign in again.
- You cannot get past two-factor authentication. See Setting up two-factor authentication.
