The visual editor
Compose a page from blocks instead of filling in a form: drag blocks onto the page, edit them in place, and save. Any page can switch to the visual editor and back, one page at a time, and nothing is lost either way.
Who this is for: Editor / Admin / Owner with website.manage.
Before you start: the visual editor is turned on for each organization by CartonCrew. If you don’t see Switch to visual editor on a page, ask support to turn it on. Nothing changes when they do: every page stays on the classic editor until you switch it yourself.
Switching a page to the visual editor
- Open the Website module and pick a section tab (Home / About / Programs / Donate / Contact).
- Click Switch to visual editor.
- You’ll see Switched to the visual editor — your content came along. The page’s existing fields are turned into blocks, and the public page looks the same before and after.
The Footer stays on the classic editor. It is site-wide, not a page you compose, so it has no switch button.
Composing with blocks
The editor’s header reads Visual editor, next to the name of the page. Add blocks from the list and arrange them on the page:
| Block | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Hero | The large banner at the top of a page |
| Stats bar | A row of headline numbers |
| Mission band | Your mission statement |
| Ways to help | The ways a visitor can get involved |
| Rich text | Free text, written in Markdown |
| CTA band | A call to action with a button |
| Media | An image, uploaded with the usual image uploader |
| Events grid (live) | Your published events, with their sign-up links |
| Campaigns feed (live) | Your public fundraising campaigns |
| Programs | Your programs |
| Contact form | The contact form visitors fill in |
Live blocks (Events grid and Campaigns feed) show real data from Event Manager and Campaign Manager, and update when that data changes. You choose where they go, not what is in them: to change an event, edit it in Event Manager. The Contact form block needs Contact Us switched on.
The site-wide Announcement bar is edited from the page’s root settings panel. Leave it blank to hide it.
There is no free-form HTML or CSS, by design. Rich text is Markdown, and colors come from Settings → Branding, which keeps the site accessible and on-brand.
Saving and publishing
- Save stores your changes (Saved).
- Tick Published to show the page to visitors, then Save. The tick is only stored when you save.
- The live preview works just as it does in the classic editor. See Live preview.
Going back to the classic editor
Click Use classic editor. You’ll see Back on the classic editor. The page is restored exactly as it was when you switched. This works for each page separately and takes effect immediately.
Changes you made in the visual editor don’t carry back to the classic editor. The classic editor gets the content the page had when you switched.
Common issues
- No Switch to visual editor button: the visual editor is not turned on for your organization yet (ask support), or you’re on the Footer tab.
- “This page cannot be converted.”: only the Footer gives this. Every other page can be switched.
- An event or campaign is wrong on the page: live blocks show the data as it is. Fix it in Event Manager or Campaign Manager, and the page follows.
- Visitors still see old content: the page is saved but not Published. Tick Published and save.
