Submitting a gift request
Ask an organization that runs a gift or aid program for help, using the request form on its website. No account is needed.
Who this is for: people asking for help for themselves or someone else, and case workers or other referrers asking on a client’s behalf.
Steps
- Open the organization’s website and click Requests in the menu at the
top of the page (or open the address ending in
/request). - Under About you, fill in Your name and at least one of Email or
Phone, so the organization can reach you.
- If the organization lists roles, choose Your role. Case workers and social workers must also give Your organization.
- Under Consent, tick either box if you want to hear from the organization about other things (future campaigns or needs, and newsletters and marketing). Both are optional; the organization can always contact you about this request.
- Under Who is this for?, give the recipient’s Recipient gender (required; choose Self-describe… to type your own words), and their Recipient name and Recipient age if you want to.
- Under What is being requested?, describe each item under Item, with a Size where it applies. If the organization uses categories, pick a Category first; use + Add item for more items and + Add another category for a different kind of item.
- Under Shipping, give the Address: the full mailing address if you know it, and at minimum the city and state. Add Any Delivery Instructions if there are some.
- Add anything else under Anything else we should know?
- Click Submit request.
The page then says “Request received — thank you” and that the organization will be in touch. If you gave an email address, you also get an email, “We received your request”.
You do not choose how the gift arrives. The organization decides whether to post it, deliver it, or arrange a pickup, and tells you.
What you’ll see
If you arrived from a link for a particular appeal, a note at the top of the form says Responding to: and names it, so your request is connected to that appeal.
Common issues
- No Requests link in the menu. This organization does not take requests through its website. Contact the organization.
- “Please leave an email or phone number so we can follow up.” Add at least one way to reach you.
- “Please add at least one item that is being requested.” Fill in at least one Item.
- You need to change or follow up on a request after sending it. The form cannot be edited after it is sent, and supporters cannot see the request’s status. Contact the organization; the “We received your request” email says how to reach them.
