Sender and replies

Who your newsletter is sent as, and where a reply to it lands.

Who this is for: anyone with campaigns.manage.

What the Sender block says

At the top of every campaign the Sender block reads, in one sentence:

Your newsletter is sent as Your Gallery <yourgallery@news.cartoncrew.online>. Replies go to hello@yourgallery.com.

The block on your screen shows your gallery’s values, not the placeholders above — the same ones the send uses. Nothing here has to be configured before your first campaign.

  • Sending name — your gallery’s name. Edit From name on a campaign to change it for that campaign (e.g. “Gallery News”).
  • Sending address — <your slug>@news.cartoncrew.online. The part before the @ is yours to change; the part after it is fixed, because that is the domain CartonCrew has verified for newsletters. Click Change the sending name and type the part before the @: letters, digits and hyphens, up to 40 characters (e.g. gallery-news). Anything else — a different domain, spaces, a second @, accented characters — is refused when you save, with a message naming the allowed domain.
  • Reply address — where a recipient’s reply goes. You do not set it on the campaign; CartonCrew chooses it by the rule below and tells you which it picked.

The Email preview on the right shows the From and Reply-To lines exactly as a recipient will see them, and a campaign’s detail view names the reply address after it has been sent.

Where replies go

CartonCrew picks the first of these that applies:

Your gallery…Replies go toWhat the form says
has Request Manager in its plan and switched onyour Request Manager inbox (requests-<slug>@inbound.cartoncrew.online). A reply that says “unsubscribe” also takes the person off the list.Replies land in your Request Manager inbox…
has a published contact emailthat address — the Public contact email in Settings, or failing that the email on your site footer or a published Contact pageThis is your gallery’s published contact address.
has neitherthe account email of the person who created the campaignReplies will come to you. To send them to the gallery’s inbox, add a public contact email in Settings → Organization → Branding.

A newsletter never goes out without a reply address. Before v1.550 every campaign carried the Request Manager address whether or not the gallery had Request Manager — for a Studio gallery that mail was refused on arrival, and a patron who replied was writing to nobody.

Change the contact email

  1. Open Settings → Organization → Branding.
  2. Set Public contact email to the shared inbox the gallery reads (not a no-reply address — those are ignored).
  3. Save. The next campaign’s Sender block shows the new address; campaigns already sent keep the address they went out with.

If you would rather replies open a request in Request Manager, switch that extension on under Settings → Extensions (Ops plans only — a Studio gallery’s plan does not include it).

Unsubscribing

Every newsletter carries a one-click unsubscribe link; that path is unchanged whichever reply route applies. Unsubscribe by reply is handled only where replies reach Request Manager.

Common issues

  • “The sending address must end in @news.cartoncrew.online” — you typed a different domain, or the part before the @ has a character other than a letter, digit or hyphen. Only the part before the @ can change.
  • Replies are coming to me, not the gallery — the gallery has no published contact email. Add one as above.
  • Replies are going to Request Manager but nobody reads it — switch the extension off in Settings → Extensions and replies fall through to the contact email instead.
