This guide covers the Noticeboard. If your gallery has not switched it on you will not see it in your portal, and nothing here will match what you see — ask whoever runs the gallery.

Notices from your gallery

For member artists. The page is called Notices (it was called Gallery Notices for a few weeks in October 2026), and it is where your gallery posts the things it wants every member to see — a change of hours, a call for work, a reminder about the desk rota, a leak in the roof.

New here? Start with Signing in.

Your gallery may not have this. The noticeboard is a module a gallery chooses. If there is no Notices page when you press The Gallery, your gallery has not turned it on — that is a decision for the gallery, not a fault and not something you have been left out of. Ask them if you were expecting a notice. Everything below assumes the page is there.

What it is, and what it is not

It is the gallery’s board, read from your side. The gallery writes; you read. There is nothing here for you to post, and nobody else’s reply to wade through — if a notice needs an answer, answer it the way you normally would.

It is private to members. A visitor to your gallery’s website cannot see these notices, and neither can somebody who is not a member artist there.

Reading a notice

  1. Press The Gallery, then Notices.
  2. Notices you have not opened yet are in bold, with a dot beside them. The line under the heading tells you how many: “3 notices you have not opened yet.” — or “You are up to date.”
  3. Tap a notice to open it. That is what counts as reading it: the bold and the dot go, and the number on Notices drops by one.

The same steps work on a phone: the two rows of buttons are the same there.

The list is newest first, except that anything marked Urgent sits at the top until you have opened it.

A notice may carry a file or two — an agenda, a form, a floor plan. Under the notice you will see Attachment (or Attachments) with each file’s name and a Download button. Tap Download and the file downloads.

A PDF or a picture (PNG, JPEG or WebP) also has View. Tap it and the file opens on the same page: a PDF’s pages scroll, a picture fits the screen. Use Download to keep a copy and Close to go back to the notice. On a phone the viewer fills the screen; for a PDF you can also tap Open in browser viewer to use your phone’s own viewer, then go back to return.

Word, Excel and PowerPoint files have Download only, with Preview not available for this file type.

The link behind View and Download is good for an hour. If the viewer says This link has expired, reopen the notice, close it and tap View again.

The unread number

The red number on the The Gallery button (and on Notices when that row is showing) is how many notices you have not opened. It is on The Gallery button whichever page you are on, so you can see there is something to read. It counts opens, not glances: scrolling past a title in the list does not clear it, and neither does the red band described next. Opening the notice does.

Urgent notices

When the gallery marks a notice Urgent, a red band appears at the top of every page of your portal — your profile, your artwork, the calendar — with the notice’s title and a Read button. Tap Read. Once you have opened that notice the band goes; if there is another urgent notice you have not opened, the band shows that one instead.

The band is not a fault and not an alarm you can dismiss by itself. It is there because somebody at the gallery decided this one could not wait for you to check the list, and the only way to clear it is to read what they wrote.

Liking a notice

At the bottom of a notice is a Like button and a count. Tap it to like the notice; tap Liked to take it back. Nobody in the portal sees who liked what, and you never see who has read a notice. The gallery’s admins do: for each notice they can see who opened it, when, and who liked it.

Two galleries

If you are a member artist at two galleries that both use the noticeboard, the list shows both galleries’ notices together, and each one is labeled with the gallery it came from. A member of one gallery sees no label — there is nothing to tell apart.

If it goes wrong

There is no Notices page at all. Your gallery has not switched the module on. Nothing is broken and you have not been left out of anything — the page appears for every member of a gallery that has it. Ask the gallery; their owner can turn it on in Settings › Extensions.

I had the page yesterday and today it is gone. The same thing: somebody at the gallery has turned the module off. If you had bookmarked the page directly, opening it now says “The noticeboard is not switched on” rather than showing an error.

A notice I read last week is not in the list any more. Notices can be given an end date, after which they leave the board; the gallery can also take one down. “That notice is not available” is what you see if you follow an old link to one. Everything current is on the page.

The red band will not go away. Open the notice it names — tap Read on the band itself. Reading it in the list is not enough; the notice has to be opened. If the band then shows a different title, that is a second urgent notice waiting for you.

The download or the viewer does not open. The link lasts an hour. Go back to the notice and tap Download or View again for a fresh one. If it still fails, tell the gallery — the file may have been removed from the notice.

The unread number is wrong. It counts notices you have not opened, across every gallery you belong to that has the board. Open the list and look for the bold ones; opening each clears it. If the list shows “You are up to date.” and the number is still there, reload the page.
