Previewing emails

The composer shows a live rendering of your email beside the editor, updating as you type.

Who this is for: anyone composing a campaign.

Steps

There is nothing to click to open it. The right-hand pane has two tabs: Email preview and Recipients. Email preview is the default.

Type in the body on the left; the preview on the right updates. With an empty body it shows “No content yet — start writing in the editor.”

The preview includes your organization logo at the top when Include organization logo is ticked, and a representation of the unsubscribe footer, labelled: “Every newsletter carries a one-click unsubscribe link — you do not need to add one yourself.”

There is no recipient selector and no substitution. This page previously described picking a recipient, switching between them with a dropdown, and seeing their fields filled in. None of that exists, because Email Campaigns has no merge fields at all — every recipient gets an identical email. See Insert helpers.

The preview is not a proof of delivery

Under the preview the composer says: “Visual preview. Always send a test to yourself before sending to everyone.”

Take that literally. The preview renders in your browser; the real email renders in the recipient’s mail client, which will make its own decisions about fonts, widths, images and dark mode. Send test to me is the only way to see the real thing, and it is one click away.

Common issues

  • The preview looks different from your inbox. Expected. Mail clients restyle aggressively. Judge the sent test, not the preview.
  • Pasted HTML lost something. The preview sanitizes the body before rendering it. Scripts, event handlers and javascript: links are removed and will not appear in the preview or the sent email.
  • A link opens a new tab. In the preview, clicking your logo or any link always opens it in a new browser tab, where your website loads normally; it never replaces the preview. This is the preview only: in the sent email each link behaves as you wrote it, and a link that opens a new tab always carries rel="noopener noreferrer" even if the HTML you pasted left it out.
  • You wanted to check the From address. The preview does not show it, and the test send comes from a different address than the real send. See Sender and replies.
