Custom domain

Serve your public website from your own address (for example yourcharity.org) instead of <your-org>.cartoncrew.online. Only the public site moves. Sign-in and the admin app stay on your cartoncrew.online address.

Who this is for: the organization owner. Anyone else who opens the page sees “Only the owner can manage the custom domain.”

Where it is

Open Settings, pick the Organization tab, then Domain. The card is headed Custom domain.

It is under Settings, not inside the Website module.

Adding your domain

  1. Type your domain in the box, for example yourcharity.org. A leading https:// or www. is stripped for you.
  2. Click Add domain. The card now shows your domain with a Pending DNS badge, plus the records to add.
  3. Sign in to your domain registrar and add the records exactly as shown in the Type, Name / Host and Value columns:
    • an A record for @ (the bare domain)
    • a CNAME record for www
    • sometimes an extra Ownership verification record, listed separately If CartonCrew recognizes your registrar, the card names it and links to its DNS settings.
  4. Click Verify. DNS changes can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours to take effect, so “Not verified yet” straight after adding the records is normal. Try again later.

Once it verifies, the badge reads Active and the card says “Your site is live at …”. The www. version redirects to the bare domain automatically. Re-check runs the verification again at any time.

Additional domains

Own more than one name for the gallery? Below the primary domain the card has an Additional domains section. Type the other name and click Add another domain. It is verified exactly like the primary (its own DNS records, Verify, the same Pending DNS / Active badge) and, once active, it and its www. version send visitors to your primary domain with a permanent redirect, so search engines see one address. Each additional domain has its own Remove. Additional domains need a primary domain to point at, so the form only appears once one is set; to remove the primary, remove the additional domains first.

Removing it

Click Remove and confirm. Your site goes back to your cartoncrew.online address. If additional domains exist, remove them first; the card says so.

Common issues

  • “Custom domains aren’t enabled on this deployment yet.” The feature is switched off for your environment. Contact CartonCrew to turn it on.
  • “Enter a valid domain”. Type the domain only, without a path, for example yourcharity.org.
  • “That domain is managed by the platform.” You cannot use a cartoncrew.online address as a custom domain.
  • Badge shows Needs attention. Check the records at your registrar against the table, then click Verify again.
