Insert helpers

Two buttons above the message body drop a styled call-to-action button into your email, so you do not have to build the link by hand.

There are no merge fields. This page previously described an Insert menu offering recipient first name, org address, a campaign code token and an unsubscribe URL, all substituted at send time. None of that exists — there is no substitution engine in Email Campaigns. A campaign body goes out exactly as you wrote it, the same for every recipient. You cannot personalize with someone’s name.

The two buttons

+ Event

Inserts a sign-up button for one of your published events.

  1. Click + Event. The window is titled Insert event sign-up.
  2. Pick an event from the list and click Insert on its row.

With nothing published the window says so: “No published events to link to. Publish one in Events first.” The event has to be published — a draft will not appear.

+ Request link

Inserts a Request help button pointing at your public request form, with this campaign’s code attached so requests arriving through it are attributed back to the campaign. One click, no dialog. See Campaign codes.

Both buttons link to your public website. When your organization has its own domain and it is verified (Settings → Organization → Domain shows it as live), the links use that domain. Until then, and for an organization without one, they use your <slug>.cartoncrew.online address. A domain that is still waiting for verification is not used, because it does not serve your site yet.

Anything else is an ordinary link in the rich-text editor. Type or paste the URL and link the text as you normally would. The two buttons above exist because their URLs need constructing, not because plain links are unsupported.

Do not insert one. Every campaign gets a one-click unsubscribe footer added automatically, and the composer says so directly. See Unsubscribes and complaints.

Common issues

  • You wanted to address people by name. Not possible — see the note at the top. Write an opening that reads well to everyone.
  • The event you want is not listed. It is not published yet.
  • The Request help button goes to the wrong place. The link is built from your public site address. If that is wrong, fix it in your organization settings rather than editing the button.
